Dior Women’s Perfumes: Choosing Between J’adore, Miss Dior and Poison

Short answer: Each of Dior’s three women’s families has a clear personality: J’adore is bright, balanced flowers; Miss Dior is rose or jasmine, from light to dense; and Poison is the warm, sweet side with almond, vanilla and orange blossom. Three questions that narrow the choice
- Bright flowers or warm sweetness? Bright flowers are in J’adore and Miss Dior; warm sweetness is in Poison.
- Rose or jasmine? Rose leads the Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum of Miss Dior, jasmine leads its Essence and Parfum, and J’adore balances the two.

J’adore: the light
J’adore is a bouquet of four balanced flowers: ylang-ylang, Damask rose and two kinds of jasmine, one of them sambac, the jasmine known in Kuwait as “full”. No flower leads, so the scent reads as a single bright flower. The versions differ in which flower stands out: citrus in the Eau de Toilette, neroli and magnolia in the alcohol-free Parfum d’eau, and orange blossom absolute in L’Or de J’adore. Miss Dior has five versions, and they differ not only in density but in the central flower:
- Blooming Bouquet: the most delicate, rose and peony with bergamot and white musk.
- Rose N’Roses: Grasse rose with bergamot, white musk and a touch of geranium.
- Eau de Parfum: centifolia rose with a honeyed heart and a touch of pepper, over vanilla, tonka bean and sandalwood.
- Essence: by Francis Kurkdjian, at a concentration between the Eau de Parfum and the Parfum: black berries, elderflower and jasmine over oak.
- Parfum: the densest, mandarin and jasmine with fruity touches over patchouli and cedar.
Those who prefer rose can start with the Eau de Toilette or the Eau de Parfum; those leaning towards jasmine can go to the Essence or the Parfum.

Dior says the first Poison appeared in 1985. The best-known feature of Hypnotic Poison is its bitter almond note, which in perfumery is close to the scent of marzipan; it gives the perfume an unusual warm sweetness alongside jasmine sambac and vanilla, in a bottle shaped like a red apple. Its Eau de Parfum is denser, with orange blossom and tonka bean. Pure Poison is a floral oriental with orange blossom, jasmine and gardenia over amber and sandalwood, and Poison Girl combines sweetness and bitterness.
Because the Poison fragrances are warm and sweet, a little is enough in Kuwait’s heat, and they show at their best in the evening and in the cooler months.
