Short answer: The four versions of Libre are not just stronger or lighter versions of the same scent; in each one a different ingredient comes forward: iced white tea in the Eau de Toilette, the balance of lavender and orange blossom in the Eau de Parfum, vanilla in the Intense, and orange blossom absolute with white lavender in L’Absolu Platine. In 50 ml, prices in our store start at KWD 42.500 and go up to KWD 55.950.

The idea behind Libre: lavender in a floral

Lavender is one of the pillars of classic men’s perfumery, especially the family known as “fougère”. Libre took it into a women’s floral and built its signature on the tension between lavender from France and orange blossom from Morocco, which is why Yves Saint Laurent calls it “the first floral lavender”. So Libre opens with a clean aromatic freshness and ends with a sweet floral warmth, and its versions branch out from that balance.

Orange blossom: why does it change from one version to another?

Orange blossom comes in more than one form in perfumery. The distilled oil, known as neroli, is fresh, green and light. The “absolute” is extracted another way that keeps the richer side of the flower, so it is deeper and closer to honey. That is why, when the Intense and L’Absolu Platine rely on orange blossom absolute, the scent turns warmer and denser than the Eau de Parfum, even before concentration comes into it.

Which Libre for which moment?

Summer days and a light feel: the Eau de Toilette, whose iced tea keeps it fresh in the heat.
Everyday wear all year: the Eau de Parfum, the original balanced signature.
Evenings and cooler months: the Intense, with more noticeable vanilla and a warmer sweetness.
The highest concentration in the line: L’Absolu Platine.

These are general suggestions. Heat increases the projection of any perfume, so fewer sprays of the warmer versions are enough in summer.

Flowers & Flames is not another concentration

Libre Flowers & Flames is a separate fragrance carrying the line’s name, with a different composition: a desert lily accord and coconut palm blossom with Moroccan orange blossom and French Diva lavender. So it smells different from Libre Eau de Parfum, even though both have the same concentration and the same price: KWD 48.200 for 50 ml and KWD 62.350 for 90 ml.

Why is the Intense named differently in our store?

The version the house calls Libre Eau de Parfum Intense is listed in our store as “Libre Concentrated Eau de Parfum”; it is the same perfume.

How can the version be identified from the box?

The version name is written with Libre on the box and the bottle: Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Parfum Intense or L’Absolu Platine. The L’Absolu Platine bottle is gold with a silver metallic touch, as the house describes it.

Is the larger size better value?

Yes. For the Eau de Parfum, for example, the 90 ml costs KWD 62.350 against KWD 48.200 for 50 ml: almost twice the quantity for less than a third more in price.
