Dior Sauvage: Eau de Parfum, Parfum or Elixir? Differences and Prices in Kuwait

Short answer: Before comparing the Sauvage concentrations, two similar names need separating: “Sauvage” and “Eau Sauvage” are two different Dior perfumes, each with its own scent. Of Sauvage itself, our store carries three versions, from lightest to densest: the Eau de Parfum, the Parfum and the Elixir. In our store, 100 ml costs KWD 59.150 for the Eau de Parfum, KWD 68.950 for the Parfum and KWD 93.850 for the Elixir.
First: Sauvage is not Eau Sauvage
The most common mistake when ordering this perfume is mixing up the two names. Dior presents Eau Sauvage as the house’s first men’s fragrance: a citrus woody scent with a chypre signature of bergamot, hedione and oakmoss. Sauvage is a different perfume, built on bergamot, pepper and ambroxan. The rule on the box is simple: if the word Eau comes before Sauvage, the perfume belongs to the Eau Sauvage line.
What do the Sauvage versions share?
The common thread in Sauvage is ambroxan: an aroma material with an ambery, woody character and a mineral gleam, originally developed to come close to the scent of ambergris. It gives Sauvage the clear trail that stays after the citrus settles. Above it, each version puts something different forward:
- Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum: Calabrian bergamot, Sichuan pepper, lavender and star anise over Papua New Guinea vanilla and ambroxan. Dior says it is stronger than the Eau de Toilette and lighter than the Elixir, and describes it as suited to every occasion.
- Dior Sauvage Parfum for Men: leaves the pepper behind and turns warm: mandarin and bergamot over Sri Lankan sandalwood, cedarwood, vanilla absolute and tonka bean. Denser than the Eau de Parfum and closer to the evening.
- Dior Sauvage Elixir: the furthest from the original, opening on spices instead of bergamot: cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom with grapefruit, lavender and liquorice, over Haitian vetiver and patchouli. Dior describes an extraordinary concentration and suggests it for autumn, winter and evenings.
The Sichuan pepper in the Eau de Parfum is not hot like black pepper; its scent is fresh and citrusy with a light tingle, and it gives the opening its well-known edge. The Elixir replaces that edge with the warmth of spices, so someone who loves the Eau de Parfum for its freshness may not find the same thing in the Elixir.

Which Sauvage for Kuwait’s heat?
For daytime and summer, the Eau de Parfum remains the best fit, because the freshness of bergamot and pepper holds up in the heat. The Parfum and the Elixir are warmer and denser, and heat increases the projection of any perfume, so one or two sprays of either are enough; they show their value in the evening and in the cooler months.

The version is written next to Sauvage: Eau de Parfum, Parfum or Elixir. The bottle colour is not a reliable guide, because Dior uses midnight blue for more than one version.
Does the Parfum suit someone used to the Eau de Parfum?
It is calmer and warmer, without the pepper’s edge at the start. Those who want Sauvage itself with a softer trail will find it there; those who want freshness should stay with the Eau de Parfum.
