Acqua di Giò and Profondo: The Difference Between the Versions and Prices in Kuwait

Short answer: The Acqua di Giò fragrances in our store go in two directions: the Eau de Parfum, Parfum and Elixir are three different takes on the scent of the sea, starting with green and marine and ending with violet and leather, while Profondo is a separate line that goes to the “depths of the sea” with cypress, musk and resins. The most affordable start in our store is the Profondo Eau de Toilette, 50 ml, at KWD 41.800, and the classic Eau de Parfum is KWD 59.600 for 100 ml.
Where does the scent of the sea come from in a perfume?
No essential oil can be extracted from the sea, so the marine notes in perfumes are accords that the perfumer builds from materials evoking salty air and sea spray. That is why “marine” differs from one perfume to another: it can be green and fresh, salty and mineral, or just a touch behind the woods. Acqua di Giò shows all three shades.
Acqua di Giò: three takes on the sea
- Acqua di Gio Eau de Parfum (100 ml): the closest to the classic scent. Marine notes with green mandarin and sage over vetiver and patchouli; Armani describes it as a clean composition.
- Acqua Di Gio Parfum (50 ml): moves from water towards wood. Armani describes it as woody aquatic, with bergamot, rosemary and incense in front, so it becomes calmer and warmer.
- Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò Elixir (50 ml): Armani presents it as the highest concentration it has reached in men’s Acqua di Giò. Its axis is an intense violet accord with leather and patchouli, and the sea is only a touch.
- Armani Acqua di Giò Absolu (125 ml): its description and concentration are not confirmed by us, so its scent is not compared here.

Profondo: the sea from the depths
Armani presents Profondo as a journey to the depths of the sea. It is a perfume with its own formula, not a stronger concentration of Acqua di Giò:
- Acqua Di Gio Profondo Eau de Parfum: salty marine notes with cypress, lavender and rosemary, finished with patchouli and musk. The cypress gives it a dry, coniferous green that sets it apart from the classic Eau de Parfum.
- Acqua Di Gio Profondo Parfum: bergamot, cardamom, green mandarin, lavender and cypress over cistus absolute, immortelle and patchouli. Cistus is a shrub that gives labdanum resin, with a balsamic, ambery scent and a hint of leather, which makes this version warmer than the Profondo Eau de Parfum.

Acqua di Gioia Eau de Parfum Intense is not part of Acqua di Giò; it is another line that Armani lists among its women’s fragrances, and for the Intense version it names citrus, Damask rose and cedarwood. The two names are close in spelling and sound, so care is needed when ordering.
